I really get mad at the DVD's having different regions, especially as (to my knowledge) the format of the video is the same, it's just some encoding on the DVD that restricts it to being used in a particular region.

In the UK many DVD players will play Region 1 DVD's (USA) as well as Region 2 (Europe), however in the USA it's almost impossible to find a DVD player that will do that. The same was true of VHS players - most in Europe would play American tapes as well as European ones, but not over here. It's maddening! I had a large collection of VHS tapes I had to leave behind in the UK when I moved.

Furthermore, my computer DVD drive will play both Region 1 and Region 2, but only allow me to switch formats a few times, and then it will stick to the format of the last DVD that I insert - forever. Why is this? It's crazy! If the device is capable of reading any Region, why restrict it?

The only reason I can think of is that the manufacturers of DVD's don't want you to be able to buy them in one region and play in another, making you buy them twice, or maybe to be forced to pay a higher price (DVD's are more expensive in Europe than in the USA).

It's been a thorn in my side for years... Thanks for explaining things.

The lens on DVD regions should be really helpful; it's a point of confusion/frustration for a lot of people.

Nice to see Great Britain doing well for a change. Of course the tv over here doesn't show much else than USA, Canada, Jamaica and China - the other athletes don't seem to matter unless there is a news story, so we have missed a lot of it unfortunately.

I miss the days when the Olympics was more Olympic sports. I don't like all the professional players playing regular games. They might as well add Cricket and American Football to the games - everything else is there. I'm surprised Pool isn't in the Olympics too. For me it was so much better when it was track and field and swimming.

I enjoyed the worst 10 songs ever too, very good.

I'm at lens 62 with 2 more in the pipeline. I decided that due to lack of time I will get to 100 in my own good time.

My song lyrics get hardly any traffic, but I hope I can do some tweaking to try and bring some in. I think that unless it's a song or artist that people are going to click on, you are unlikely to get much traffic. Just hope the band gets in the news or does a tour or something. Or like Madness, one of their songs is the theme to a new game show coming out on ABC this fall. I hope for more traffic because of that.

Good Luck.

Enjoyed the "10 worst songs ever", or actually, I appropriately DIDN'T enjoy the "10 worst songs ever". Wish I had 107 completed. (I'm working on #83 and 84, rather than a Giant Squid, I should be a Giant Snail.)

Cool - I might have to use that on my lenses about Dorset. Thanks.

So your hubby is from Surrey? I'm from Dorset, but I spent 4 years in Morden in Surrey, just outside Wimbledon. Small world...
